2.Central Scheme Of Scholarship

 For College And University Students

           The objective of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to meritorious students from poor families to meet a part of their

day-to-day expenses while pursuing higher studies. The scholarships are awarded on the basis of the results of senior secondary

examination. 82000 fresh scholarships per annum (41000 for boys and 41000 for girls) for graduate/post-graduate studies in colleges and

universities and for professional courses, such as Medical, Engineering, etc. could be provided. The total number of scholarships has been

divided amongst the State Boards based on the State’s population in the age group of 18-25 years, after segregating share of Central

Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Council

for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) on the basis of number of students passing out from various Boards in the country.

The number of scholarships allotted to the Boards are to be distributed amongst pass out of the Science, Commerce and Humanities streams

of the Boards in the ratio of 3:2:1.  Students who are above 80th percentile of successful candidates in the relevant stream for a

particular Board of Examination, in class XII of 10+2 pattern or equivalent and having family income of less than Rs.6 lakhs per

annum, pursuing regular courses (not correspondence or distance mode) from recognised educational institutions and not availing

of any other scholarship scheme, would be eligible for consideration under this Scheme. This is applicable to all categories of

students both ‘general’ and ‘reserved’.

             The rate of scholarship are Rs. 1000/- at Graduation level for the first three years of College and University courses and Rs.

2000/- per month at Post-Graduation level. Students pursuing professional courses would get Rs. 2000/- per month in the 4thand 5th year.

The scholarships would be paid for 10 months in an academic year. This is subject to annual renewal on the basis of stringent criteria.

             The Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students is covered under the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Under the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) Programme of the Government of India, scholarships are disbursed directly into the bank accounts

of the beneficiaries.

          The scheme is open to candidates who belong to Other  Backward Classes (OBC) and wish to pursue higher studies such as

regular and full time M.Phil. and Ph.D degrees in Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences and Engineering & Technology. The total

period of fellowship (NFJRF and NFSRF) is for five years.  The gap period for the registration in Ph.D. after completion of M.Phil.

is one year.

TARGET  GROUP:  Unemployed  OBC  Candidates  who  have  passed  the  Post  Graduate examination  in  concerned  subject 

and  who  desire  to  pursue  full-time  research  without  JRF  of  UGC-NET or UGC-CSIR NET. The candidate who is already

registered for M.Phil. / Ph.D. will be eligible for consideration for award of fellowship under the scheme. There are  300 slots 

for  award  of  fellowship  every  year  for  all  the  subjects  for  consideration  of  application received through On-line

submission from research scholar belonging to OBC category.  There is a  provision  of  3%  reservation  for  slots  for 

consideration  of  award  of  fellowship  to  research scholars from disabled category who belongs to OBC category.

ELIGIBILITY: 

  1. The candidate should belong to OBC and should have passed the Post Graduate examination and annual

income of the beneficiary/parents or guardian of the beneficiary should not exceed Rs. 6.00 lakh per

annum from all sources.

2. The candidate who is already registered for M.Phil./Ph.D. will be eligible for the consideration for award

of fellowship under cited scheme.

3. Transgender candidates are eligible to apply under the scheme. The reservation shall be followed as

per Government of India norms.

4. Selection will be made on the basis of merit of the candidates. However, the actual payment of

fellowship will be made directly to awardee through e-payment under DBT with effect from 1st April

of selection/financial year (or) from date of joining the fellowship, whichever is later.

HOUSE  RENT  ALLOWANCE:  Suitable  single-seated  hostel  accommodation  may  be  provided  to  NJRF candidate  in  the 

University/Institution/College.

LEAVE:  The  candidates  are  entitled  for  a  maximum  period  of  30  days  of  leave  in  a  year  in addition to public holidays.

They are not entitled to any other vacations. Women candidates   are eligible for maternity leave of 135 days at full rates of 

fellowship once during the tenure of their award. In  special  cases  National  Fellowship  Junior  Research  Fellow  may  be 

allowed  leave  without fellowship by the Commission up to one academic year during the entire tenure of the award for

accepting  teaching  assignments  on  a  temporary  basis,  provided  the  assignment  is  in  the  same city/town. In other

cases, leave without fellowship will be restricted to a period not exceeding three months during the tenure of the award on

the recommendations of the supervisor and  the institution. The period of leave without fellowship will be counted towards

the total tenure of the award.  NFJRF/NFSRFs are advised to apply for leave through University/Institution/ Colleges well in

advance for the approval of the Commission.
